Our Whakapapa

Over the last 25 years, we’ve nurtured the talents of thousands of gifted children, and given expert support to their parents and teachers.

The New Zealand Centre for Gifted Education is a not-for-profit organisation that provides nationwide support for gifted children aged 2-13. We are the only organisation in New Zealand to do this. Over the last 25 years, we’ve nurtured the talents of thousands of gifted children, and given expert support to their parents and teachers.

Currently, over 700 children from over 280 schools are enrolled in our MindPlus family of programmes, accessing the specialised support they need to thrive, face-to-face and online.

Our whakapapa

The New Zealand Centre for Gifted Education was born in May 2014 from the merger of two pioneering organisations: the Gifted Education Centre (GEC) and Gifted Kids Programme (GKP). We carry in our DNA the aspirations and contributions of those organisations' founders, staff and whānau.

Our programmes

Gifted learners have unique learning and social and emotional needs and, in response to these, we have developed a specialist curriculum we use across all our MindPlus programmes

Support for schools
& teachers

Gifted learners need every teacher to understand their needs and know how to meet them. We train and support teachers and schools throughout NZ.
